Lovethe.Earth: a senryu trio

This series of three senryu is written for Lovethe.Earth, my conservation nonprofit.

hear me when I say:
we don’t need degrees to make
art that speaks to hearts

pick up a pen and
listen to the voice within—
we’ll move minds through words

hope is not lost, love
the earth can still be saved but
we must change our ways

Senryu is a form of Japanese poetry similar to haiku; they have the same 5-7-5 syllable pattern, but the themes are different. Haiku illustrates a season in nature and senryu delivers a social critique, sometimes with humor. In the original Japanese, senryu includes a cutting word. In English, senryu includes selective punctuation for emphasis.
