my delicious loose ends

Do you like light-hearted art? I’m beginning a mini digital art series on Bluesky.
If you have a Bluesky account, you can find my new #digitaldoodle series there at the handle @miscellaneous.blog
Learning how to draw and paint with digital tools is getting easier every day, thanks to two tutorials I watched (links below) and some practice.
It’s taken a while for me to get into it, which is surprising even to me because I have been using Canva for almost 10 years.
Last year, I made my first digital drawing with Canva, and while I use Canva every day for the art you see on this blog, I think I wasn’t ready to dedicate time to practicing a new subset of my art.
I recently found an awesome tutorial on YouTube called How to Draw Flowers with Procreate by Shayda Campbell. Procreate is a digital drawing and painting app. I bookmarked it so I could come back to it, and here we are now.
A couple of days ago, I watched Shayda’s tutorial again, and I realized I needed to learn the basics of Procreate so I could really make the most of it. My public library offers LinkedIn Learning access for free with my library card, so I searched for Procreate videos there. I found just one course, and it was perfect for what I needed. It’s called Learning Procreate by Karen Larson.
Procreate has one direct competitor that I know of, which is Adobe Fresco. I’m learning how to use that, as well, because I’m just so curious. It’s free to use Fresco if you create an Adobe account.
Procreate Pocket (for iPhone) is $5.99 and Procreate (for iPad) is $12.99. At the moment, I’m learning how to use Procreate Pocket, but I will get the full version soon. Both apps have brush kits that can be purchased as add-ons.
It’s fun and a little terrifying to try something new, but I feel confident that I will get better with practice and a little patience. I hope you’ll join me on Bluesky.
If you haven’t heard, Bluesky is a decentralized social media platform and it’s led by a woman. That’s says a lot, I believe. You can find out more at Bluesky’s website or the Wikipedia article on Bluesky.
