This poetic duo celebrates the circular flow of living mindfully.
1. Structured Poetry
Catena Rondo is a form of poetry with a series of four-line stanzas connected by repeating lines. The second line of each stanza becomes the first of the one to follow, creating a circular flow. The verses loop in a meditative rhythm, a pattern of echoes that creates a sense of continuity, like walking a spiral that ultimately leads you home.
Each Day is New is a simple poem about daily purpose. It’s easy to fall into accepting that our purpose in life is what we do or even who we are. Yes, there are things we must do, and there are people we must be in order to live, but choosing how we show up in life is a kind of freedom and a form of art. We can begin to find the creative aspects of what we do, like the choreography behind the beauty of dancing. We can see interacting with others as opportunities to create peace, and we can see stillness as an opportunity to bear witness to our truest emotions. When repeated day after day, we cultivate compassion for others and for ourselves. Living becomes infused with purpose when we acknowledge the gift of each new day and its inherent potential for joyfulness in so many forms.
Each Day is New, by Esther Chase
each day is new
another chance
for joyful dance
each day is new!
another chance
to create peace
kindness at least
another chance
to create peace
time to be still
matter of will
to create peace
time to be still
make space to feel
all that is real
time to be still
each day is new
another chance
for joyful dance
each day is new!
I learned about this form and others from The Complete Guide of Poetic Forms: 100+ Poetic Forms Definitions and Examples for Poets. I continue to make good use of it and I highly recommend it.
2. Digital Art
The featured image for this blog post is called golden, an abstract digital media composition. I recently discovered how to add metallic effects in Procreate, a digital design app I use on my iPad with an Apple Pencil. I felt a burst of enthusiasm from my heart when I saw this technique! This piece feels as light-filled and hopeful as the poem that was inspired by it.

I have begun practicing slow looking as a form of art appreciation. Slow looking is a one-hour three-fold combination of meditation, mindfulness, and creative awareness. This approach has deepened my perception of creating and witnessing my own art—literally overnight. It reveals layers upon layers of meaning and value. Slow looking is one good way to begin the journey of art appreciation that is open to everyone because it doesn’t require any vocabulary, historical knowledge, or formal education to participate.
