my delicious loose ends

Day Ten

Now feels like a good time for reflection and synthesis—like the separate aspects of my creative experience are bending toward alignment.
There was an blockage in my creative realm; part of it was spatial in that I needed a storage cabinet in my office for loose items, and part of it was situational in that I needed to begin thinking of how some new energy could benefit my art. I’m the kind of person that needs to feel organized, and if my work space is in a state of flux or disarray, it disrupts my creative energy. As a commercial artist, I can figure out ways to power through projects for clients, but not with my own art. I handle that differently.
Developing a new creative approach, or a new artistic perspective, can unblock energy and get it flowing again. Everything I happen to try in these #30daystocreativity might not pan out, but if I can find one or two viable things to expand, I will be pretty satisfied.
For example, I have often thought of developing a greeting card series, which would make a great physical product to add to the online shop for Chase Digital Solutions. It wasn’t until I decided to commit to #30daystocreativity that I coaxed myself into drawing my first flower, which didn’t happen as easily or efficiently as I imagined. For years, actually, I’ve been thinking about this, trying to make sure that whatever I come up with for a product concept would be an accurate reflection of what I care about. Now that I have started my digital drawings, I think I have the right product concept. At this point, it’s just a matter of finding the right environmentally-conscious printer, the right tree-free paper, and being willing to re-draw my first design to fit printing constraints and some afterthoughts I had.
Of course, if that does not work, I need to be malleable enough to take action on some other thing that blooms from these 30 days. But this gives an idea of what my creative process is like as a commercial artist and a marketing strategist.
I’m excited to see what else I can create in the remaining 20 days. If nothing else, I will have developed a framework for my second e-book.
